ARTISTS-IN-RESIDENCE
Inga McCaslin Frick, a painter and multimedia artist in the SomoS virtual residency program, explores the interplay of color, space, and sound to evoke depth and motion. Inspired by musical structures, illusion, and life’s sensations, she blends traditional techniques with digital tools like large-format printing and Photoshop. During her residency, she will develop a new large-scale piece, advancing her dynamic approach to composition and expression.
Vassilis Konstantinou (b.1979) is a Greek artist working in photography, audiovisual arts, and film. His work examines the human condition, environmental collapse, and identity, focusing on the tension between decay and regeneration. During the SomoS Virtual Residency, he aims to refine his project Zen Whispers in the Wasteland, an immersive installation combining projections, visuals, and sound to explore survival, loss, and renewal in a dystopian world.
Halifax-based Canadian multimedia video artist Marissa Sean Cruz creates work exploring anxiety, materialism, and techno-capitalism through costumed performance, video installations, and digital media. At SomoS, Cruz will develop a new short video piece, Other Forms of Enlightenment that draws from blackouts, examining the power and poetics of light in our ever-connected contemporary world.
Yau Kwok Keung, a Hong Kong-based tattoo and visual artist, explores history, mythology, and collective trauma through paintings, videos, mechanical sculptures, and sound installations. Keung will use his residency to merge his tattoo practice with historical research, collecting personal stories, collaborating with local artists, and creating multidisciplinary work on remembering and forgetting.
Canadian interdisciplinary curator, artist, and writer dani neira creates work rooted in queer-feminist care and collaboration. The co-founder of Dirty Dishes Collective and Assistant Curator at Open Space will develop Wormholes at SomoS, a multidisciplinary exhibition reflecting on disorientation, connection, and alternative ways of knowing through queer and diasporic perspectives.
Ely Young is a Brooklyn-based designer and artist whose background in interior architecture informs her approach to space and texture in painting and drawing. Centering the human form, her work incorporates symbolism and graphic elements to reflect themes of duality, honesty, and vulnerability. At SomoS, she will expand her visual language while engaging with Berlin’s creative landscape.
Christopher Houweling (b. 1984) is a Mexican interdisciplinary artist working at the intersections of perception, nature, and technology. His works blend organic forms with digital aesthetics, challenging boundaries between physical and virtual realms. At SomoS, he is developing MOLÉCULA, an interactive paper-based installation integrating light, mapping, sound, and movement to reveal interconnected systems.
Paean Sarkan (b.2001) is an Australian conceptual artist using text-based methods to explore cultural identity, institutions, and artist-audience relationships. Her recent work focuses on personal identity through recontextualizing her mother tongue, Bengali. At SomoS, she will deepen her research in a site-responsive residency, engaging with artists, curators, and professionals.
Rexy Tseng is an internationally active Taiwanese visual artist who works primarily with the media of kinetic installation and figurative painting. He returns to SomoS for a second residency after working with us in 2019, also to take part in the Berlin Program for Artists – BPA.
